Springsteen, who supported Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 election, called Trump the “most dangerous candidate” he’s seen, citing a disregard for democracy and equality.
A day earlier, Robert De Niro delivered a similarly charged speech while accepting an honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes.
He warned of threats to democracy in the U.S., criticizing Trump’s leadership, funding cuts to the arts, and a 100% tariff on foreign films. De Niro urged global action, saying, “We can’t just sit back and watch.”
Both speeches drew strong reactions online, with praise from fans and scorn from critics. Despite Trump’s reelection, Springsteen and De Niro remain outspoken, using their platforms to call for civic engagement and resistance to authoritarianism.
