The horrifying incident took place on Tuesday, August 12, when a 2024 International tractor-trailer executed a dangerous U-turn on the Florida Turnpike near Fort Pierce.
Authorities have identified the driver as Harjinder Singh, an undocumented migrant, who now faces homicide charges in connection with the deadly crash.
Harjinder Singh, the driver of the tractor-trailer, was heading north on the Florida Turnpike around 3 p.m. when he attempted to cross the median using an “official use only” passage.
The area clearly displayed a no U-turn sign, and the lane is intended solely for emergency vehicles. Singh’s decision to ignore the restriction led to a catastrophic chain of events, resulting in multiple fatalities.
Dashcam footage revealed the tractor-trailer blocking the northbound lanes when a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country minivan collided with the massive vehicle.
The driver, Harjinder Singh, watched as the black minivan struck the semi-truck and became wedged under its left side, resulting in a devastating impact.
Two of the three occupants in the minivan died instantly at the scene of the collision.
The driver, a 30-year-old man from Florida City, was rescued from the wreckage and transported to a nearby hospital. Sadly, despite medical efforts, he passed away later that evening, bringing the total fatalities to three.
