Coronation Street and Mrs Brown’s Boys star dies as tributes paid to ‘truly great actor’

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Frank Grimes, the acclaimed Irish actor who brought depth, charm, and authenticity to every role he played. Passing away at the age of 78, Grimes leaves behind a rich legacy spanning theatre, film, and television.

Best known to many UK viewers for his role as Barry Connor in the beloved soap Coronation Street, Frank first stepped onto the cobbles in 2008. As the father of Michelle, Paul, and Liam Connor, his character became a cornerstone of key family storylines. His return in 2015 for Michelle’s wedding to Steve McDonald remains a memorable moment for fans.

Frank’s career, however, extended far beyond Weatherfield. Hailed as “one of Ireland’s greatest actors,” he earned respect for his commanding stage performances and television work, including appearances in Mrs Brown’s Boys where his comedic timing shone just as brightly as his dramatic chops.
