Trump’s latest tariff increase targets Chinese imports, intensifying a trade war with Beijing, while China pushes back with defiant warnings and sharp criticism of U.S. policies.
Trump raises China tariffs to a record 245 percent
Former President Donald Trump has raised tariffs on Chinese imports to an unprecedented 245 percent.
The move comes after China responded with retaliatory tariffs of its own.
The White House stated that the steep increase was a direct reaction to China’s “retaliatory actions” in the escalating U.S.-China trade conflict.
Previously, Trump had reduced tariffs on other countries to just 10 percent.
However, he dramatically increased the tariffs on Chinese goods, triggering sharp criticism from Beijing.
